Signage and Wayfinding Systems Inspired by Yachts and Ocean Waves

The designers at Shenzhen Rehoegd Signage Co., Ltd. aimed to create a distinctive signage and wayfinding system for the artificial island port. They incorporated the element of curved surfaces, drawing inspiration from the interaction between yachts and waves. The design captures the stillness and movement of the ocean, symbolizing the future planning and futuristic nature of the island.

The signage features seamless splicing technology and meticulous craftsmanship to achieve perfect curves. The indoor signage combines metal and resin, with aquamarine resin representing the ocean naturally molded through casting. This allows the curvy waves of the metal base to be visible, creating a visually complex representation of marine elements.

All signage in this project adopts a soft curved surface design language, creating a harmonious and recognizable aesthetic. The color scheme, in high contrast to the surroundings, enhances the memorability and visibility of the signage. The design not only provides space guidance but also aims to convey the development prospect of the island through various visual textures.

The project, which started in Zhuhai, China in October 2019, has undergone extensive research and development to overcome creative and technical challenges. The design team successfully integrated the common aesthetic elements of yachts and the ocean, capturing the spirit of the project site. The flowing curved surface design and the resin casting process were particularly challenging but ultimately contributed to the unique and captivating nature of the signage.

The Island Is a Symbol of the Times by Shenzhen Rehoegd Signage Co., Ltd. received the Iron A' Design Award in the Meta, Strategic, and Service Design category in 2022. This prestigious award recognizes the well-designed, practical, and innovative nature of the signage, meeting professional and industrial requirements. The design integrates industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, contributing to a better world.
